My clients often come in looking for new furniture for their kids, but don't know where to start when considering what to buy. I know it's hard to imagine your toddler using his room as a junior in high school, but anticipating and purchasing furniture for his future needs will allow the room to grow with your child and save you money in the long run. Below are a few things to consider:
* How old is the child? What common uses does he have for his room? As she gets older, how will she use her room?
INFANT
TODDLER
TWEEN
TEEN
* Do you anticipate the child keeping the furniture throughout the teenage years or do you plan on purchasing new furniture as they get older?
* Does the child need a workspace for homework in his/her room? Will there be a computer in the room?
* Will the child need room for a TV or any electronics in the room?
* Is it important to have a separate sleeping space for friends that may spend the night?
* Will you use the furniture for a guest room once the child leaves home?
* What kind of storage do you need? Does the child have a large or small closet? Remember, most girls need more space for clothes as they get older. :)
If the room is on the smaller size, you might consider adding storage under the bed or purchasing a "captain's bed."

Once you think about the functionality of the pieces within the room, then you can move onto the fun part of picking out the colors/finishes and styling. I'd love to help you all pick out the most functional furniture for your kids that reflects their style.
